Should I?

I am 24 yrs old living in US. I've played cricket since I was 11 and moved to US from Pakistan at 14. Here in US I have played what you can call club cricket since this is the highest level here. I am an opening batsmen. To give you an idea of the level that we play at, we have some former West Indian national and Indian first-class players who play in different leagues. However, the standard is still low because not all matches are played at same level. Only playoff games and some regular season matches are highly competitive because of the players playing.

I have utmost love for the game of cricket and want to chase my dream of playing cricket for Pakistan. I would like to seek some professional advise on whether it makes sense to sacrifice my future here and take the risk at this age with no first-class experience. I am currently in college, 1 year from my BA. My biggest concern is the flaws in the Pakistan Cricket. I don't want to be one of those who keep making runs and dont get picked because someone "knows" someone.

I have been debating this with myself for a while. There is no quality mentor or cricketing academy here in US that I can go for help. Please help and any advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading!

It's tough to give good advice without knowing how good a player you really are, but the odds are stacked against you Salik.

From what you say, you have no experience at a level that will give you a chance to step up to the pros. At 24 you are at the late end of your development, so to start now means you really have to get on with it.

That means getting into a system that can spot you (Australia and England probably have the best setups) and working really hard. Even then it's a BIG gamble looking at your experience. You would have to play through the non-pro ranks and do some great work.

So, far be it from me to squash a dream, but it certainly appears a step to far from this distance. Of course, there is a lot of scope for me to be wrong too...
