I am 12 and mad about cricket. I play for kenilworth wardens in u12's, u13 and u14. I have been selected for my district south and central warwickshire and last year I also got selected for the county u11 too but didn't manage to make it into the winter squad. I am hoping to get in the summers u12 county too. I am a batting allrounder and come in at no.3 and bowl leg spin.

My first match of the season is on Sunday for the u13's. U13s is 25 overs per side so should get a decent amount of time in the middle if I don't get out early

Went to the gym today - did 30 mins of bike on the aerobic interval setting, 10 mins on the hand bike and 10 mins doing weights. At 7:00 I had had enough and decided to go out and bowl even though there were still puddles. I bowled for about 20 mins and was bowling quite well and hit my target more times than not.

Ok. Usually when I do arm stuff I warm up doing stretches for about 5 mins. Then I do different dumbell things using a 2.5 kg weight. These are things like chest press where I do 3x60 secs, dumbell side lifts 1x60 secs, dumbell squats, overhead press 2x60secs, bent over rows 2x60 secs, step ups with dumbells 2x60 secs, bicep curls 3x60 secs and dumbell lunges. Then I also do press ups 2x45, dolphin press ups 1x50 secs, diomand press ups 2x30 secs.

I did a lot of skill work today. Got 40 balls of throwdowns. Batting shocking for the first ten balls without getting out and then started to find the middle again. Need to still be a bit more balanced though. Did loads of bowling as well - 25 minutes just bowling at around middle stump. Then 30 mins of agility bowling. Finally did 15 overs of my target bowling.

Yeah or invest in some more weights. Or do some more bodyweight stuff. 2.5kg is not going to help much.

Managed to do quite a lot today. Did 20 mins of bowling at around middle stump, 30 mins of agility bowling and we went to watch the fa cup final at a sports club but they had nets there so I Bowled for 30 mins and was happy with how much spin I got. Also did 40 balls of throwdowns and was better balanced but wasn't timing it brilliantly.

Went to gym as well today - did 25 mins on the rowing machine - 4250 metres. Did weights (they don't let kids go on the free weights but I went on the other ones) - I did: seated lat pulldown - 25 kg, 3x10. Chest press - 10 kg, 3x10. Tricep pushes 20 kg, 3x10. Shoulder press 15 kg, 3x10. Seated row - 20 kg, 3x10 and pec dec 5 kg, 1x10, 10 kg, 2x10. Also did leg press 40 kg, 3x10. Leg curl 10 kg, 3x10. Would go to the gym much more but they only allow kids on Saturday and Sundays at 2-4 pm. Most Sundays I can't go.

Did a lot of training/fitness training yesterday - 20 mins bowling at around middle/leg. 28 lengths of a 25 metre pool. Also Bowled for about 1:30 and batted for about 40 mins. Bowled well and managed to get a bit of spin even though it was very wet. Didn't bat well and bat face kept closing wen driving straight. Decided to open the face of the bat a bit more while in backlift.

Had my first match of the season today 20 over u12's - well half a match! We batted first with me opening. I started well but was slow in the middle. It was all very slow bowling on a very slow wicket where driving was impossible. In the end as you have to retire on 30 I decided to go for it more and hit another four but then got bowled going for a sweep. It was going down leg but it hit the inside of my calf and went onto the stumps. I got 25 off 44 which is slow but considering there was no pace coming onto the bat it was ok. We got 90 off 15 overs with our no.3 slogger making 25 off 15 balls. After that it started to rain again and that was it.

Also did supermans 2x60 secs, plank 2x60 secs and Russian twists 2x60 secs

Yesterday I did 60 minutes of arm exercises (the same as before but more reps) plus dumbell press ups 3x50 secs. Then went to the nets and batted ok but got bowled by a good length ball that seamed back in but I played around it slightly. Also didn't mange to glance ones down the leg side and just ended up missing them. Think I needed to et my feet across more. Bowled good areas with a bit of spin on very wet AstroTurf.

Last year, around my abdominals I was very weak and I have been working very hard at that over the winter and I feel there is still a bit more to do but I am nearly where I wanted to be
Also, make sure you work on your t-spine & hip mobility alongside core strength. The body is an integrated unit.

Finally had my first adult game today. We batted first and I batted at number 4. I came in at the score 8-2. Because we had a load of young players that were not very experienced so my role was to stay in for as long as possible without worrying about runs because I had one of the better older players batting with me. I got 2 off 58 balls but I had a very slow bowler bowling at me for about 40 balls who was just bowling a very good line and length with a ring field and hitting over the top is not one of my strongest thing. I should have still got much more though and if I had got to the other end with a bit more pace then I would have got much more! We had a partnership of 50 though. We made 107 bowled out but if I had got out early we would have probably made about 75. I Bowled 7 overs 1 wicket for 39 runs as we lost by 8 wickets in 24 overs. I bowled pretty well with short boundaries. What was annoying was that in each over I either bowled 1 full toss or 1 short wide one. I was the youngest player there but I had one of the most experienced players because we had such a weak team!

Had an u13 match yesterday which we got trashed. In our 25 overs we made 88 for 8 which is quite bad but on a slow wicket it's not too bad. I got 38 off 68 which is quite slow but as the next highest score was 7 I did well. They got there in only about 12 overs and only for 1 wicket. My captaining was ok but after they had got 20 off their first 2 overs everyone stopped concentrating and the bowling (including mine) was poor. My figures were 3-0-28-0. It was me bowling too full but also the fielding must have included at least 10 runs.
I also dropped a catch at Mid off which was hit hard but I should have caught it

Had district training today. We batted in pairs for four overs each. I batted quite well but ran myself out. I got 7 runs on an extremely slow outfield. I bowled 2 overs for 4 runs and nearly got a wicket but keeper dropped it. Was quite pleased apart from the stupid run!

Should have had a school game and an u12 match on Tuesday but were both called off so I ended up having a wet net instead. Batted well but bowled poorly. Felt well balanced while batting but it didn't feel right coming out the hand. Did a circuit of 20 secs press ups, 20 secs mountain climbers, 20 secs of jumping lunges and 20 secs of burpees all x 6

Had my adult match yesterday. We batted first and I was in at 4. Didn't bat very well and got 7 off 38 balls. We had a very weak side again. We got 118 in our 45 overs. They got it quite easily with 7 wickets remaining. I had pretty good figures. 6-0-25-1. My wicket was caught at cover from a leading edge. My fielding was very good and did a few good diving stops.

Had an u13 match today. The wicket was even slower than Saturday and the grass was not only very wet but very long as well. I lost the toss again and we got put in to bat. I was in after 3 balls and I batted through to the end. Again I was quite slow and I got 28 off 68 balls. The rest off the team put together Got 16!! We only got 61 and that was never going to be enough. We bowled very well though and I managed to not let the teams heads go down. They got it in about 17 overs with 6 wickets left. I just bowled 2 overs 1-4 and I bowled very well. My wicket turned from outside leg to off and bowled him. I feel I got the bowling changes right and captained pretty well.
Haven't got a match this week but have got district training tomorrow. Next match Is for the men's on Saturday.

Batted very well in district training yesterday all apart from getting bowled by a Yorker. I was batting the best I had all season then my bat got jammed into the ground and was bowled. Thankfully though, it was a pairs practise match so I could stay in and I batted jut as well after. I bowled very well and bowled 3-1-2-5. Occasionally a bit short but they hit those straight to the fielders. Overall I was very pleased although I was extremely annoyed to get out.
Played cricket in the garden with my bro as well which is not so good for technique but is great for hand eye coordination because he is very fast from 10 yards! I also bowled a few target bowling overs.

Had cricket training at school yesterday. Just did a Pairs match and I batted very well. Bowled very well and fielded rubbish.
Also got loads of throwdowns on random lengths and bowled 12 overs of target bowling in my garden. Feel pretty good when I'm batting but am having a problem this year on full balls and Yorkers.

Got a load of throwdowns again today. Drove better but still not like I used to. Had to go to my bro's cricket training today so didn't have time for bowling. Got my first school game tomorrow and we have a good team so might actually be my first win of the season. I go to finham park school in Coventry which is a state school but our year is brilliant at cricket.

Had my school match yesterday. We only played 16 overs and we batted first and got 85. I opened with another county player and we put on 62 off 8 overs before we were both retired because it was a friendly. I got 22 off about 17 and the other got 22 off about 26. The rest were wides, no balls and byes. I only bowled 1 over as we were trying to get everyone a bowl. We bowled them out for about 30.
Got a load of throwdowns again. This week has been much more of a batting week but I will do some bowling before training today

Did a 50 ball challenge bowling. Bowled 50 balls and if I bowled a bad ball I would have to bowl it again. I set myself a target of 8 or under bad balls and I got 8 so I was quite happy.

That's a great challenge, it's a good way of seeing how you are improving.
I drink moderately and i am dropping. Slowly and gradually, but certainly the botanical slimming is coming off, however , you know very well what? I've wine with dinner some occasions, and beer when I'm hanging in the backyard. I do not choose to give factors up which i get pleasure from, so I discovered a way to make them suit in to my healthy life-style.

Another hour of fitness today - 10 mins yoga and 50 mins of dumbell and other arm stuff.
I am praying no more rain this week otherwise my mathes may not be on. Fingers crossed!!!

Personally I'd be interested in the details of the sets and reps and rest of your routine. It sounds like you are working hard though.

Next time I do other fitness I will say what I do

I did a lot of skill work today. Got 40 balls of throwdowns. Batting shocking for the first ten balls without getting out and then started to find the middle again. Need to still be a bit more balanced though. Did loads of bowling as well - 25 minutes just bowling at around middle stump. Then 30 mins of agility bowling. Finally did 15 overs of my target bowling.

I reckon you can manage more weight than 2.5kg. Good to see you using weight though, lots of people are afraid of it.

I would use more weight but I don't have any heavier than that

Rest day yesterday. Should have training tonight but may be too wet and tryin to protect pitch for tomorrow.

Think i have some school matches coming up soonβ¦
Definitely worth joining a gym in the off season if you don't have anything heavier than 2.5kg.
Yeah or invest in some more weights. Or do some more bodyweight stuff. 2.5kg is not going to help much.
By the way David I am a 13 year old fast bowler. I would like to ask what sort of fitness training exercises I should be doing as I live in the southern hemisphere and its the off-season.

Yesterday training was off but i did 9 overs of target bowling and a bit of yoga. Also did some swimming for 50 mins. Unfortunately match today was off and match tomorrow is also off (

Didn't do much after match today just played a bit of badminton and did loads of different types of crunches including normal ones 5x60 secs, bicycle crunches 3x60 secs, split crunches 3x60 secs, oblique crunches 2x60 secs per side, and vertical leg crunches 3x60 secs.

What's the thinking behind so much abdominal power work?
Last year, around my abdominals I was very weak and I have been working very hard at that over the winter and I feel there is still a bit more to do but I am nearly where I wanted to be

Also, make sure you work on your t-spine & hip mobility alongside core strength. The body is an integrated unit.

Thanks a lot will do these exercises when I do a core session. Need to get a resistance band but should get that soon and I will replace the ab wheel with the reverse crunch.

Just did 20 mins of high intensity bodyweight stuff yesterday.

Haven't done anything the last few days because I have been ILL. I'm still a bit ill but am going into school today just to prove to my parents that I am ok for training tonight and match tomorrow.

Felt much better today. Did the normal abdominals plus the exercises David said. Also did about 20 mins of loads of different weight and bodyweight exercises. Also had training - had some throwdowns and was timing it well. Did a mini match and played well batting and bowling. Should have an adult match tomorrow but there is rain around tonight again!!!
