How to clean stains from your cricket whites
White was a bad choice for cricket clothing: Cricketers dive about and get dirty. Getting stains out of white is a nightmare.
Chucking your whites on a hot wash just doesn't cut it.
But standards must be maintained on the field. As the famous saying goes:
"If you can't be a cricketer you can at least look like one."
Here is how to get your whites stain free:
Grass Stains
There are 2 ways to get grass stains out of whites:
- Make add a little bit of water to some washing powder to make a paste. Apply it to the stain and wash the whites on a hot wash.
- Sponge the stain with diluted methylated spirits, let it dry and wash on a hot wash.
Cricket Ball Stains
Pick up a colour run remover from somewhere like Woolworth. Treat the stain as per the instructions.
Mud Stains
Let the mud dry and brush off as much as possible. Dab the stain with water and lemon juice, rinse off and wash as normal.
If that doesn't work, try soaking your whites overnight in a bowl of water and some washing powder and wash the next day.
Other stuff to remember
- Don't iron over stains, as the heat will make it very difficult to remove.
- Bleach can discolour stains instead of removing them.
- Always rinse treatments thoroughly to avoid the appearance of rings.
