1. Job Summary

The aim of the Glamorgan sports science and medicine strategy is to optimise the Club’s best players’ availability and performance through the provision of outstanding sports science and medicine services.

 The Strength and Conditioning (S&C) Coach will be responsible for the standardisation, development and management of Glamorgan’s sports science service.

The S&C Coach will be responsible for managing S&C programmes of up to c20 on the professional staff, and manage the S&C programmes delivery of up to c20 players on the Glamorgan development programme. 


1. Nature and Scope of Role

a. Role Context

The S&C Coach is responsible for the delivery of the following objectives in conjunction with the Medical Officer, Glamorgan Physiotherapist and consultant practitioners:

i) Minimise the impact of injury and illness on availability and performance for Glamorgan teams/squads

ii) Ensure players are optimally, physically prepared for First Class cricket

iii) Enable individuals to excel and develop sustainable performance within and outside cricket

iv) Conduct innovative research and development to inform coaching plans and science and medicine support programmes

1. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership and management of S&C programmes and high qualify delivery to Glamorgan CCC players and teams
  • Work closely with the Head Coach and Head of Talent Development to develop and deliver integrated support programmes meeting the performance and development needs of Glamorgan CCC players
  • Performance benchmarking and quality management processes for all aspects of science and medicine services based on ‘best practice’
  • Work with the CEO/Director of Cricket, Head Coach and other senior managers of Glamorgan CCC to align science and medicine to corporate goals
  • Provide nutritional guidance and advice to all players on the Glamorgan CCC staff
  • Provide the necessary S&C information in order for Glamorgan CCC to comply with the necessary standards of the ECB Injury Prevention and Management (IPM) Audit
  • Input necessary information into Performance Profiler as the central database for all science and medicine disciplines record keeping and reporting
  • Deliver bi-annual profiling of Glamorgan CCC squads and hold players accountable for achieving minimum fitness standards
  • Attend case conference and other Glamorgan CCC staff meeting as required by the Head Coach
  • Liaise closely with the Head Coach, and be prepared to undertake any other duties related to the work of these functions 


1. Skills Experience and Background

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams in high performance sport
  • Extensive experience as an S&C Coach delivering support to high performance teams in professional and/or Olympic Sport
  • Post-graduate degree in sports science discipline
  •         Current professional accreditation / license in a sports science discipline
  • UKSA accreditation or the ability to gain the accreditation within a 6 month period
  • A valid certificate of basic life support and first aid qualification
  • Enhanced DBS accreditation
  • Current professional indemnity
  • An agreed CPD programme
