Birmingham cricketers give rave reviews at PitchVision Academy Live!
Local cricketers got a taste of the future of cricket coaching when they attended Edgbaston for the Birmingham leg of PitchVision Academy Live!
The event, part of the ongoing “Coaching Technology Revolution” Tour was put on by PitchVision to showcase their interactive coaching sensor technology. Real cricketers used it to test their batting, bowling and fielding while getting instant feedback on their performance.
PitchVision is a motion tracking system that uses sensor mats to accurately track the movement of the ball. The nets at the famous Edgbaston test venue were set up with 3 systems and within an hour was seamlessly gathering information from the bowlers, batsmen and fielders who took part.
With PitchVision acting as a cricket simulator, players were automatically awarded runs and wickets as they played. In an exciting climax to the event, and for the second time in three events, the fielding final was decided by the last throw of the day.
But what did the players think of how PitchVision worked?
Amun who plays in Lincolnshire said, “I’m really impressed with all the stats it’s giving out. My friends would love it. We would use it all the time.”
Usman from Walsall added “It’s good, it helps you with technique because it shows you where you are going wrong.”
Sam who is at Aston University was impressed too. “It’s nice to know what you do when you are being coached is coming off. Plus it brings out your competitive side!”
There were also a range of people from different organisations looking to see how PitchVision worked. We asked them what they thought.
Chris, from ICC Europe, said “It’s almost like having a second coach by you, giving you that data you can analyse. It’s a great resource from a coach education point of view and also in relation to getting participation up at grass roots level.”
Devon Malcolm, former England fast bowler said “When I was playing the only way you got access to this was when I played on TV. If I had a good day I watched the highlights! To see technology filter down quickly to grass roots is very good. Youngsters can see what areas they are bowling and do analysis of their skills.”
