Ferris Bueller, as you already know, was the coolest kid in school. Who doesn't want to be a bit like Ferris?

Ferris would have been a great cricketer, had he not been busy being a 1980's fictional Amercian High school kid. Here's why.

Ferris uses bluff to his advantage

[his recorded message for the doorbell] "Who is it? [pause] Oh, I'm sorry. I can't come to the door right now. I'm afraid that in my weakened condition, I could take a nasty spill down the stairs and subject myself to further school absences. You can reach my parents at their places of business. Thank you for stopping by. I appreciate your concern for my well-being. Have a nice day!"

Ferris tricks his parents into thinking he is ill so he can take a day off school. Then he records a message on his house intercom to make people think he can't get to the door. That kind of bluffing skill is going to get his team wickets as he sets odd fields and sledges with just the right level of deception.

Ferris is bold

"Ladies and gentlemen, you are such a wonderful crowd; we'd like to play a little tune for you. It's one of my personal favorites"

At the end of the film, despite narrowly avoiding his father all day while skipping school Ferris takes a bold risk. He takes over the microphone in the middle of a parade because his friend is feeling a bit depressed. I can see captain Bueller declaring on a score most people would consider too risky, or batsman Bueller hitting the ball over the top because there is a gap behind the fielder.

Ferris is creative

"Look, it's real simple. Whatever mileage we put on, we'll take off. We'll drive home backwards."

After stealing his friends Dad's car Ferris thinks on his feet. Of course it doesn't work but how's that for creativity? Imagine how brilliantly Ferris would set fields or bowl variations.

Ferris believes in himself

"Not that I condone fascism, or any -ism for that matter. -Ism's in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in The Beatles, I just believe in me." Good point there. After all, he was the walrus."

Cricket is a game of belief as much as it is of technique. Ferris would never be paralysed by a game situation. He would just get on with being the Walrus and never giving up.

Ferris uses a social support network

"Oh, he's [Ferris] very popular Ed. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, waistoids, dweebies, dickheads - they all adore him. They think he's a righteous dude."

Imagine what kind of team Ferris could rustle up from that lot. That's a vital skill for any club captain. Also if he ever wanted to start a fitness plan or change his eating habits to improve his game, everyone would back him 100%.
